In the tropical forest of Central America, Mayas and Aztecs tilled the cacao tree. The paste, obtained from grilled and pounded cacao seeds on heated stones, was mixed with water. This drink was famous for its healthy and aphrodisiac properties.

In July 1502, Christopher Columbus is the first European to discover the cocoa, but don't have any interest in it. It is the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortès, in 1519, who appreciates this antifatigue drink and who send the first cocoa cargo to Spanish Court.

France discoves the cocoa in 1615 with the wedding of Anna of Austria, daughter of Philip III of Spain, and Louis XIII. The new queen had a fond for this drink.

At the XIXe century, with industrial and technical expansion era, the chocolate industry was born. At first handycrafted, the first manufactures setted up all over Europe. This is the development of the chocolate major companies :Van Houten, Suchard, Lindt, Tobler, Cadbury … and the diversification of the chocolate styles : dark chocolate, chocolate biscuits, chocolate with fruits and nuts, powder chocolate, chocolate bars...
